A Review - Florida Grand Opera's Così fan Tutte

10:40 PM

It all starts with a bet.... A cruel idea to test the boundaries of fidelity that invites you into a story that is truly captivating and hilarious! Florida Grand Opera's Così fan Tutte premiered this Saturday and I was fortunate to attend. I can honestly say that this was my first opera that was a comedy, so I was really excited to see how it would translate. I can honestly say that it was a comedic triumph. Così fan Tutte which translates to "All women are like this...." brings a modern twist on that is hilarious and fun but at the same time mesmerizes you with Mozart's beautiful score. I couldn't stop smiling throughout the show. Conductor Ramón Tebar was flawless and took the music to another level. As far as the story, it takes you to Monte Carlo at the scene of a luxury resort where a man named Don Alfonso convinces two soldiers to wager on the fidelity of their fiancées. Holding them to such high Goddess-like pedestals, makes Don Alfonso want to prove even more that temptation can lead triumph. This unfolds into a series of events that have you wondering and laughing the whole time. The costumes and set design are perfect and truly take you to another world. The principals of the evening were truly amazing, vibrant, and endearing in their roles. Tenor Jason Slayden as Ferrando and baritone Jonathan Beyer as Guglielmo, play the soldiers who conspire the wager. Arthur Woodley who debuted that evening plays Don Alfonso who basically lures the soldiers into the bet.  Soprano Ava Pine is the sexy & feisty maid, Despina. Lyric mezzo Brenda Patterson is Dorabella and Soprano Sari Gruber is Fiordiligi, the sisters who's love is tested with no boundaries. The entire cast was brilliant and showcased their voices to screaming applause. It brought a comically risqué story to life all while embracing the magic that is Mozart. Check out some pics from the show:

With all these images, I can assure you that it is only a glimpse into what is a wonderful experience that you don't want to miss out on. Opera is one of the most important art forms around today in a world of auto tune and American Idol. I can tell you with all honesty that this is a show that is a MUST see for anyone looking to have fun and be moved by a truly poignant & charming cast! Here are the remaining shows:
