Florida Grand Opera Presents Giacomo Puccini's: Madama Butterfly!

11:32 PM

It's one of the most classic love stories of all time as portrayed through the music of the one and only Giacomo Puccini. As a start to their 2014-2015 season, the Florida Grand Opera is starting off with the timeless story of Madama Butterfly featuring a cast that is spellbinding. For those who will be seeing this for the first time, here is a little info.....

Puccini’s opera, based on David Belasco’s play Madame Butterfly, has its roots in a true story of cultures clashing and shattering the lives of all involved. While stationed in Japan, an American Naval officer, B.F. Pinkerton, arranges to marry a 15 year-old geisha known as Cio-Cio-San (Chō is the Japanese word for Butterfly) or Madame Butterfly, with no plans to stay in the marriage any longer than he has to.
When he leaves for America, everyone believes Butterfly has been abandoned. Clinging to hope and the promises Pinkerton made, Butterfly keeps vigil for three years with her faithful servant and the young son—Pinkerton’s son—she gave birth to not long after his departure. When Pinkerton returns with his new American wife, a life-shattering drama plays out in front of us as Butterfly resorts to a solution that is as heart-wrenching as it is gruesome.

With a stellar cast and production company, I am so excited to share some final info &  dates for the upcoming shows.

I am hearing amazing things about Soprano, Kelly Kaduce's portrayal of the title character: Cio-Cio San:
